The National Rural Health Alliance is Australia’s peak non-government organisation for rural and remote health. It brings together disparate voices from around Australia for the common purpose of improving the health of people who live and work in country areas. The Alliance is currently comprised of 29 Member Bodies, each of which is a national organisation.

Among its regular contributions to rural and remote health are management of the biennial National Rural Health Conference and of the Australian Journal of Rural Health, and production of Position Papers, Submissions, Media Releases and newsletters. The Alliance is also the national management agency for the Rural Australia Medical Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme (RAMUS).

NRHA CouncilFest

The NRHA CouncilFest was held on November 13th - 17th, 2009 in Canberra.  The NRHA CouncilFest is a meeting of representatives from each of the 29 organisations.  The 2009 CouncilFest consisted of meetings where the final report of the health reform was discussed and a final consensus made on what could be presented to the Parliamentarians.  Also the member bodies were entertained with Bag Pipes, Folk music and a Drama performance by Matt McLindon a member body Representative as the Beast in Beauty and the Beast in the Lunch Breaks.  Clare Sutcliffe and Andrew Hunter, the NRHSN's NRHA representative attended the CouncilFest as well as a day in Parliament on behalf of the rural health student members of the NRHSN, having the opportunity to speak to Health Minister Nicola Roxon, the Minister for Indigenous Health, Rural and Regional Health and Regional Services Delivery, Waren Snowdon, Shadow Minister for Health Peter Dutton, to name a few.

The student perspective was welcomed at this meeting with the Alliance eager to incorporate our views into the policy to be put forward to stakeholders.
