HOPE4HEALTH
HOPE4HEALTH (H4H) is a non-profit organisation founded by Griffith University medicine students in 2006 and membership is open to all GriffithUniversity students. H4H aims to improve health outcomes for local, rural, indigenous and international communities and this is achieved primarily through coordinating programs and activities that promote health awareness amongst our members.
We provide opportunities for members to experience working in areas of need with a view that they may be encouraged to take up employment in these areas following graduation. As Griffith University's Rural Health Club, and newest member of the NRHSN, H4H coordinates excursions into regional, remote and indigenous communities. Furthermore H4H has also established a Teddy Bear Hospital Program which is aimed at the local Gold Coast primary school community. The project allows the opportunity for students to take the first steps in preventative medicine with workshops designed to educate young children in staying healtthy.
H4H is a registered charity with fundraising also playing a large part of our organisation. Every year we host the H4H Jazz Dinner Dance and H4H Professionals Cup Golf Day. Proceeds from these events go towards our various projects. As an example, H4H’s first project was ‘The Dabaa Medical Centre’ in Ghana, West Africa. In conjunction with The Watson Foundation, H4H successfully raised funds to build a much needed hospital for the region and also aided in securing a sustainable future for the project through an official relationship established with the Ghanaian Government Ministry of Health. In 2008 we fundraised in support of the 80th Anniversary of the Royal Flying Doctors Service (QLD Section).
