SHARP Hills Hoist Series... Stories from our own backyard 2009

A HILLS HOIST Series... Stories from our own backyard started in 2008 with a number of very interesting speakers and is continuing into 2009 for SHARP members.

The first of the 2009 events was held in March and featured Professor Kathy Eager speaking about 'The Cost of Closing the Gap in Aboriginal Health in Far North Queensland'.  She has over 25 years experience in the health and community care systems, during which she has divided her time equally between working as a clinician, senior manager and health academic.  Professor Eager spoke about her experiences in rural medicine and how everyone can think laterally and strategically to make a difference globally and in our backyard.

Report on The Cost of Closing the Gap in Aboriginal Health in FNQ by Perrie Simonovic
"For the students, obtaining an early glimpse into the political struggles of the health system and the inequalities faced by Indigenous Australians proved invaluable, reminding us again that there is more to health than just care."
