RAW 2009
The delegates of RAW came from 10 Rural health Clubs across NSW and the ACT. RAHMS hosted the event, with participants also coming from ARMS, BREAATHHE, CRANC, MARHS, MIRAGE, NERCHA, RHUUWS and SHARP. RAW is designed to provide a rural experience to students, insight about rural life and rural practice. The weekend also includes the promotion of team-building as a platform to allow for multi-disciplinary and inter-university networking. Delegates 'roughed it' for the weekend, sleeping in swags and tents, braving the elements. Delegates were able to participate in a number of rural activities throughout the weekend including listening to guest speakers; tours, competitive team-building exercises, a stockmanship exhibition, an Indigenous cross cultural awareness workshop from local Waradjuri men and a workshop on the do's and dont's of treating snake envenomations. For more information on RAW please contact Shannon Nott.
"Having grown up in Wollongong my whole life I’d had no rural experience at all, staying at the Nott family farm for RAW has opened my eyes to so many new things, my ideas of rural areas have been changed for the better and I've become much more passionate about rural health. I am hoping to get into postgraduate medicine in 3 years, and if that were to happen I would love to do work in rural areas. I just wanted to show my thanks and appreciation to Shannon, his family and the entire RAW crew for making my RAW experience one to remember. I hope I can come back next year!" Ivonne, SHARP
