NRLDS Previous Years

The National Rural Leadership Development Seminar (NRLDS) was designed to address the fiercely ageing workforce in rural and remote Australia. Conceived as a joint initiative by the NRHSN and the Australian Medical Students' Association (AMSA), the NRLDS saw Australia's two largest health student advocacy bodies come together to help address one of Australia's greatest disparities - the depleting health workforce in rural and remote Australia.

With a quickly ageing health workforce, the NRHSN and AMSA saw what many of the sector's leaders would be at retirement age in the near future and Australia needed to provide pathways for succession planning. The NRLDS is designed to do just that - create a new breed of health leaders who were looking to work in rural and remote Australia.

This event enables allied health, nursing and medical students to come together in a truly multi-professional arena, to be provided with specific skills needed to excel in career paths in rural and remote Australia.

The NRLDS is designed to be an interactive "hands on" experience for delegates where they are able to gain additional skills to futher them as professionals. This event includes keynote speakers, workshops and open floor sessions that allow delegates to discuss particular issues current within rural, remote and Indigenous health in Australia. This event also includes a student-run rural health roundtable, where delegates as well as invited professionals in the field of rural health can come together to address rural health workforce issues.

In conjunction with the amazing academic program designed to advance the skill base of tomorrow's leaders in rural heatlh, the NRLDS boasts a social program that allows delegates, invited guests and sponsors to network together in a formal setting.
