Position Papers

The NRHSN advocates on a number of issues relevant to the future rural health workforce and these are highlighted in our Network position papers. These position papers are regularly updated and new ones developed as needed. All position papers are developed following consultation with general NRHSN members, Rural Health Club representives, NRHSN portfolios and the NRHSN Executive, and have become official policy following endorsement by the NRHSN Council.

National Priorities Paper 2011-12

The NRHSN 2011-12 National Priorities Paper outlines key issues from the NRHSN student perspective, covering five priority areas which the network feels are particularly pertinent to rural health students. These areas are:

1. Rural and remote training pathways
2. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health
3. Mental health training for all health students
4. Ensuring Medicare Locals deliver for the rural and remote health sector
5. Regional development and health infrastructure

Inter Professional Education (IPE) position paper

The Inter Professional Education position paper was finalised by the NRHSN Executive in November 2007 and updated in 2012 by the NRHSN Executive and Community and Advocacy Portfolio. 

Bonded Medical Places (BMP) and Medical Rural Bonded Scholarships (MRBS) position paper
The BMP and MRBS position paper was revised in late 2010.

Student Services Amenities Fee Position Paper
The Student Services Amenities Fee Position Paper was finalised in June 2012.

Guidelines

The NRHSN recognises the importance of well supported and positive rural placement experiences to attracting and supporting a future rural and remote health workforce. The Optimising Rural Placement Guidelines document was developed to offer a student perspective to placement providers in an effort to provide a consistently high standard of placement.
