NRHSN at FRAME 2025

Conor McEvoy, Mikayla Budda-Dean & Gina Hamade – NRHSN Executive

On May 14 and 15, NRHSN executives Conor, Gina, and Mikayla attended the Federation of Rural Medical Educators meeting in Bathurst. Together with medical deans and educators, they discussed building a strong, sustainable rural health workforce.

The execs spoke about the NRHSN business plan for the year including by priority

  1. Equity in First Nations Health Care
  2. Rural Health Club Support
  3. Attraction and Recruitment of the Future Rural Workforce
  4. Strengthening Partnerships with Stakeholders
  5. Sustaining the NRHSN.

From these priorities, the exec discussed the Councils plan to upskill Rural Health Clubs leaders and the First Nations health initiatives. This includes the First Nations Future Rural Health Professional Program which was piloted in 2024 and involvement with Goodooga Games happening in August.

The overall take aways from the meeting included shifting medical education to being in students’ communities and focusing on closing the gap to strengthen First Nations people.
