Our First Nations Vice Chair, Mikayla, had the incredible opportunity to attend the 2025 Rural Generalist Engagement and Networking Conference #RGEN25
It is a HETI-led conference promoting Rural Generalism & uplifting the next generation of rural doctors.
Held 16-17th may in the beautiful Hunter Valley, RGEN25 was all about “Partnerships in Care – Excellence in Action”. The conference centred on how collaboration and self-care can enhance healthcare outcomes in rural communities

Mikayla secured a spot in the highly sought-after
Airways Workshop, gaining hands-on experience with airway adjuncts – a critical skill in rural medicine.
A huge step forward in practical rural training!

Keynotes and panels focused on:
- Teamwork in multidisciplinary rural settings,
- Strategies for self-care and resilience,
- Strengthening rural healthcare through genuine partnerships
All essential lessons for future rural health leaders

From fellow medical students and Rural Generalists to JMOs, RMOs, and even a Director of Medical Services, Mikayla connected with a diverse mix of passionate rural health advocates – all open to share advice and insight Opportunities like these empower our student leaders and remind us why rural healthcare matters
