Welcome to LARHC
Founded in 1997, the La Trobe Rural Health Club (LARHC) is a student-led organisation dedicated to promoting rural and remote health careers and opportunities. While the majority of LARHC members are from La Trobe’s Bendigo and Albury-Wodonga campuses, LARHC welcomes members from all La Trobe campuses and represents a wide range of health disciplines.
We are governed by the National Rural Health Student Network (NRHSN) and supported through partnerships with organisations such as the Rural Doctors Network (RDN). This connection gives our members access to national events, leadership opportunities, scholarships, advocacy for rural health, and unique professional development experiences.
Our members come from across La Trobe University and include students in Biomedical Science, Dentistry, Dietetics, Health Sciences, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Oral Health, Paramedicine, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Psychology, Public Health, Social Work, Speech Pathology, and more.
Whether you are studying in Albury Wodonga, Bendigo, Mildura, Shepparton or even Melbourne, if you are passionate about rural and remote health, LARHC is the place to connect, learn, and make an impact.
Our aims are to:
- Provide insight into rural health
- Promote a multidisciplinary approach to health
- Include and involve all members in club activities
- Serve the wider community through ongoing activities and events
- Assist rural students considering a career in health sciences
- And most of all, to have a little FUN along the way
LARHC runs many events over the year including:
- Allied Health Gala
- First Aid Courses
- Rural High School Visits
- Careers Day out
- Clinical Skills day
- Sausage Sizzles
- Not much happening at your campus? LARHC is a student-run club at La Trobe. Join our committee, and you can help organise future events!
By becoming a member of your Rural Health Club, you are also a member of the National Rural Health Student Network (NRHSN). The NRHSN represents the future of rural health in Australia. It has more than 9,000 members who belong to 29 university Rural Health Clubs from all states and territories. It is Australia’s only multi-disciplinary student health network, bringing together people studying medicine, nursing and allied health, encouraging them to pursue rural health careers. It is important to keep your details up-to-date to ensure your RHC and the NRHSN can keep you informed of everything exciting that’s happening in rural health.
