Welcome to Rural Health in the Northern Outback (RHINO)

We are the the student rural health club for James Cook University and Central Queensland University. It is our aim to promote rural issues and opportunities within the disciplines of medicine, dentistry, nursing, physiotherapy, speech pathology, occupational therapy, pharmacy, biomedicine and paramedic science in North Queensland.

RHINO was founded in August 2000. RHINO aims to promote rural health issues and opportunities within the disciplines of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Pathology, Biomedicine and Paramedic Science. We have a strong and deep passion for Indigenous and Cultural aspects within healthcare across this region and beyond.

RHINO provides many rewarding activities for its members which are both fun and educational – these include trips to rural locations across Northern Queensland, guest speakers from around Australia (and the world), skills nights, social events, conference attendance and heaps more!

We look forward to your support in 2021 across our three campus sites of Cairns, Townsville and Mackay.

By becoming a member of your Rural Health Club, you are also a member of the National Rural Health Student Network (NRHSN). The NRHSN represents the future of rural health in Australia. It has more than 9,000 members who belong to 29 university Rural Health Clubs from all states and territories. It is Australia’s only multi-disciplinary student health network, bringing together people studying medicine, nursing and allied health, encouraging them to pursue rural health careersIt is important to keep your details up-to-date to ensure your RHC and the NRHSN can keep you informed of everything exciting that’s happening in rural health.
