Rural High School Visit to Deloraine High School
The first rural high school visit for 2022 occurred at Deloraine High School on Monday 11th April. UTAS students from Launceston, Hobart and Burnie attended and ran stations to 50 high school students years 7/8/9/10. These stations introduced the high school students to skills that they may use in health degrees. The stations included:
- Plastering
- CPR
- Heart rate and blood pressure
- Reflexes
- Bandaging, anaphylaxis and asthma
- ‘gusty gus’ model
Overall, the students were engaged and asked questions throughout the visit. We introduced the students to pathways into health degrees through university but also talked about other pathways such as through VET courses, TAFE and volunteering. The ATAR and scholarships for university degrees were also discussed.
This was a very successful visit and the school appeared very appreciate of Rustica and the UTAS volunteers.
